Is it safe? Securing data.

Is it safe? Securing data.

The Satcom Direct Data Center moves approximately 250 terabytes of information every month. According to the University of Oregon, a single terabyte consists of about 250 movies, each with a two-hour running time or the equivalent of 17,000 hours of music. That’s a lot of movies and music.  Or put another way; the Smithsonian quantifies 250 terabytes as the equivalent of five million tall filing cabinets or 125 billion pages of standard printed text.

Safeguarding that volume of information is a significant responsibility and one that we are committed to taking on for our customers.  The SD Data Center was conceived and designed to enable secure, tailored data management solutions. Infrastructure as a Solution, IaaS, Backend as a Service, BaaS, Disaster Recovery as a Solution, DRaaS, and more, are available for each and every customer. Data drives all aspects of our world; the value of data is priceless, which is why the SD Data Center focuses on the physical security of the data too.

Physically the building is constructed to withstand category five hurricanes, access is only possible through a single entry with a double-door security system, and access badges are only given to registered clients and limited staff. The badge usage is monitored, and closed-circuit TV keeps eyes on all the servers and those around them. The internal atmosphere is climate controlled to ensure servers function continuously without overheating.

Our team delivers superior standards underscored by best-in-class service while adhering to the highest data compliance methodology. Our engineers adhere to rigorous controls of operations, monitoring, and maintenance to stay ahead of the curve and ensure continuous improvement of the data security management system. The team supports powerful data services in addition to providing complete infrastructure and connectivity solutions. Strong customization and consulting allow clients to optimize custom-engineered data solutions to exploit evolving technology and harness evolving best practices.

The installation’s International Standard Organization (ISO) 27001:2013 status underscores their professionalism, which delivers confidence that the team at the state-of-the-art facility applies a structured approach to managing data security.  In addition, the SD Data Center is SOC 2 Type II compliant, further confirming to customers and partners that data security is a mission-critical priority for SD.

Our clients work across multiple industries with diverse requirements, and our engineers securely manage data on behalf of international governments, individual military forces and alliances, business aviation, IT operations management and a variety of industries, including healthcare, education, and finance, all of which depend on us for their daily activity.

From connectivity to hardware to network engineering and design – including business continuity – our client-centric approach ensures customer expectations are met and exceeded. At SD, one of our guiding principles is to validate all that we do before delivering it to our customers. As such, the SD Data Center is home to all the data generated by our own family of companies – we are our own client. This vested interest also stimulates customer confidence in our efficient and secure data transmission across a self-owned, fully redundant and highly scalable network. By serving ourselves and leveraging the full capabilities of our Data Center, current and future internal and customer-facing services are constantly enhanced.
