The Satcom Direct aeroIT® certification is an information technology certification for the configuration and troubleshooting of networks and satcom systems onboard an aircraft.

Identifying a need in the industry based on the rising demand for onboard internet access, Satcom Direct’s team of IT and satcom experts created this certification to meet that demand. aeroIT® is similar and complementary to the Network+ certification, an industry standard for IT networking professionals. Candidates must complete the coursework and pass the proctored exam. Successful candidates receive a renewable aeroIT® certification that is valid for three years, per the industry standard.

The aeroIT® certification exam is a professional level assessment, on par with a Net+ skill set. Prior to the exam, the recommended prerequisite experience is 2 years aviation training with basic knowledge of networking (how to set up a router, etc.). The aeroIT® exam focuses on four areas:

  • Satellite Networks
  • Network Theory
  • Troubleshooting Aircraft Networks
  • Network Management

This training course is approved for eight FAA Inspection Authorization (IA) credits.

Cost

The aeroIT® certification training has a retail cost of $6,995*. This includes:

  • Four and a half days of classroom training, reviews, & exam preparation in Melbourne, FL.
  • aeroIT® coursework book
  • SD Learning Management System (LMS) access
  • Test voucher for the proctored examination
  • The option for testing
  • Five-night hotel stay and lunch each day

Overview

The aeroCNCT certification is designed to provide flight crewmembers with the knowledge, ability, and confidence to troubleshoot basic in-flight connectivity issues.

Staying connected in flight has become a necessity, but with communications, avionics, and network systems being more complex than ever, you can’t always travel with your IT department to troubleshoot when problems occur – that’s why crewmembers need aeroCNCT (Crewmember Network & Connectivity Training).

aeroCNCT is more than a certificate; it’s a professional credential developed to meet industry standards. The three (3) years certification was developed to create a standard in cabin connectivity education. The aeroCNCT exam focuses on several areas:

  • Identifying components of the Aircraft Network
  • Identifying the components of Aircraft Internet Connectivity
  • Identifying the aviation SATCOM Services
  • Identifying a Connectivity Pre-flight Process
  • Troubleshooting In-flight Data and Voice Connectivity

Cost

aeroCNCT certification has a retail cost of $1,800*. This includes:

  • Two days of classroom training, reviews, and exam preparation
  • aeroCNCT courseware book

Overview

Sharing “lessons-learned” can be difficult when you don’t have the opportunity to meet with industry counterparts. Satcom Direct’s aero|OPS: Flight Operations & Connectivity Forum is designed to provide organized discussions around trip planning, flight following, debriefing, and reporting between aviation professionals from all facets of the flight department.

Ideas beget new ideas and improvements, and often a small seed of diversity in the way a task is accomplished will sprout a forest of improvements and changes that make your flight department more effective and efficient. This forum provides fundamental knowledge, basic concepts, and benchmarking to help you build the scheduling and ground support knowledge desired by flight departments.

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for schedulers, dispatchers, ramp agents, crew service associates, and other on ground personnel who may be expected to assist passengers or inflight personnel with accessing various communication networks. While the target student may have extensive knowledge within their area of expertise in the flight department and some limited knowledge of and experience with using various mobile and traditional IT devices, the student is not a technician, network administrator, or other IT department employee or contractor.

Prerequisites

To ensure your success in this course, you should have a minimum of 6 months of corporate aviation scheduling and/or dispatching (or other ground-based flight department role) experience. A very basic familiarity with corporate aviation technology and Wi-Fi usage for a variety of devices, including the cabin connectivity will also be helpful.

Course Objectives

In this course, you will:

  • Benchmark your flight department’s operations against other organizations.
  • Identify best practices related to flight scheduling and recordkeeping.
  • Identify components of the aircraft Internet connectivity and networking.
  • Identify and discuss flight department related technology solutions.

Cost

The aero|OPS forum has a retail cost of $1,000.

Overview

With the rise of increasingly sophisticated “bad actors”, there is a clear and present danger that all flight departments, corporate fleets, and business aviation stakeholders should be aware of, which is why we have launched our brand-new Aviation CyberThreat Awareness course.

We recognize that technology alone cannot be responsible for mitigating all cyber threats, so we have designed this course specifically for business aviation professionals, owners, and operators to support raised awareness.

Coursework and Assessment

The program navigates the complexity of security compliance and cyberthreat prevention from an aviation, rather than technology, perspective. Available now, the computer-based training, which is offered through the SD Learning Management System (LMS), is self-paced to deliver a comprehensive understanding of aviation information security. Those subscribing to the program will learn how to implement best practices for security compliance and monitoring security of passenger and organizational data. Identification of common hacking techniques, attack methodology, and current cybersecurity concerns within aviation support awareness building about inherent vulnerabilities. In addition, modules relating to how to protect data during international travel are complemented by information on the use of personal digital devices before, during, and after a flight. The course is set to become essential training for any business aviation professional concerned with anticipating and mitigating inevitable cyber events.

Course Length and Format

  • 2-3 hours via SD’s Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Online, self-paced

Who should attend?

End-users (technical and non-technical) of computers, mobile devices, networks, and the Internet, who want to learn how to use technology safely and securely, minimize digital risks and ensure company compliance.
